Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained, rinsed, and lightly dried
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup sweetener (brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup)
  • 2 large eggs or 2 flax eggs (2 tbsp ground flaxseed + 6 tbsp water)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beans: Drain and rinse a can of black beans thoroughly to remove excess sodium and canned taste, then dry them lightly with paper towels.
  2. Blend the Base: Place the rinsed black beans in a food processor or blender with cocoa powder, sweetener, eggs (or flax eggs), vanilla extract, and baking powder. Blend until completely smooth and creamy, ensuring no bean chunks remain.
  3. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Transfer the batter to a bowl and gently fold in your choice of chocolate chips or chopped nuts for added texture and richness.
  4. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into a greased or parchment-lined 8×8-inch baking dish. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with a few fudgy crumbs.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares to help them set and enhance their fudgy texture.

Notes

  • Fully blend the beans to avoid any chunks for the best brownie texture.
  • Do not overbake; slightly undercooked brownies will be moist and fudgy.
  • Use quality cocoa powder for richer and more intense chocolate flavor.
  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure a uniform batter.
  • Adjust sweetness by tasting batter mid-blend to suit personal preference.
