Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Cheese and Butter

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold (for dough)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for brushing)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk, cold

Optional Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon parsley, finely chopped (fresh)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder until well combined.
  3. Add Cheese and Butter: Fold in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Cut in the cold unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, ensuring flakiness without greasiness.
  4. Incorporate Buttermilk: Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently stir the mixture just until combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
  5. Shape the Biscuits: Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow room for rising.
  6. Bake and Brush: Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. While baking, melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and mix with garlic powder and chopped parsley. When the biscuits come out of the oven, brush this garlic butter mixture on top immediately for signature flavor and shine.

Notes

  • Keep all ingredients cold, especially butter and buttermilk, to ensure a tender, flaky texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough biscuits.
  • Use freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese for better flavor and melting quality.
  • Space biscuits evenly on the baking sheet to allow even rising without sticking.
  • Brush the garlic butter topping while the biscuits are warm for best absorption and shine.
