Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs (room temperature for best texture)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil (for greasing)

Optional Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped spinach, bell peppers, or mushrooms (pre-cooked or sautéed)
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, sausage, or ham (for meat lover’s version)
  • Herbs such as fresh parsley, chives, or thyme (to taste)
  • Spicy additions like diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or oil. Chop any vegetables or meats you wish to add and grate your cheese.
  2. Beat the Eggs and Milk: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk or cream until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy to ensure a light, fluffy casserole.
  3. Add Cheese, Vegetables, and Seasonings: Fold in the grated cheese, any pre-cooked vegetables or meats, and season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs or spices. Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Pour and Bake: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes until the casserole is puffed, golden on top, and set in the center.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing. This helps it set and makes serving easier.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for a creamier, lighter texture.
  • Do not overcook; remove the casserole as soon as it is set to avoid dryness.
  • Grate your own cheese for better melting compared to pre-shredded varieties.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes after baking to firm up before slicing.
  • Pre-cook or sauté vegetables to reduce moisture and enhance flavor.
