Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 1 lb chicken breast, thinly sliced

Vegetables

  • 4 cups fresh cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 green onions, sliced into small rings
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, minced

Sauces & Oils

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Optional

  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tsp honey or brown sugar (optional for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Slice the chicken breast thinly and chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces. Mince garlic and ginger finely, and cut green onions into small rings to have everything ready for smooth cooking.
  2. Heat the Pan: Warm a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat until hot to ensure a good sear and prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Add the sliced chicken to the pan, stirring frequently for 4 to 5 minutes until the pieces turn white and begin to brown slightly. Remove the chicken and set aside temporarily.
  4. Stir-Fry the Aromatics and Cabbage: If needed, add a little more oil to the pan. Toss in the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the chopped cabbage and stir-fry for 3 to 4 minutes until softened but still crisp.
  5. Combine and Sauce: Return the chicken to the pan, drizzle with soy sauce and sesame oil, and sprinkle optional chili flakes if using. Toss everything together and cook for another 2 minutes until fully coated and heated through.
  6. Finish with Green Onions: Sprinkle the sliced green onions on top, give everything a final toss, and then remove from heat to serve fresh and vibrant.

Notes

  • Use high heat for quick searing to lock in flavors and keep vegetables crisp.
  • Cut chicken and cabbage into uniform sizes for even cooking.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary to maintain heat.
  • Always use fresh garlic and ginger for the best flavor.
  • Taste the dish before serving and adjust soy sauce to avoid oversalting.
  • Chicken thighs can be used instead of breast for extra moisture and flavor.
  • Substitute soy sauce with tamari for gluten-free preparation.
  • Add a teaspoon of honey or brown sugar for subtle sweetness if desired.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of water or broth to maintain freshness.
