Ingredients

Scale

Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets (fresh or thawed)

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Garnishes (Optional)

  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until smooth and well combined. This mixture forms the signature sweet and savory teriyaki glaze for your salmon.
  2. Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or zip-top bag and pour half of the teriyaki sauce over them. Refrigerate and marinate for 15 to 30 minutes to let the flavors deeply infuse the fish.
  3. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a baking dish to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  4. Arrange and Bake Salmon: Place the marinated salmon fillets skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Reserve the leftover marinade. Bake uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on thickness, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork but remains tender and moist.
  5. Glaze and Broil for Finish: Brush the salmon generously with the remaining teriyaki sauce, then switch your oven to broil. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until the glaze is caramelized and bubbly, watching closely to avoid burning for a perfect glossy finish.

Notes

  • Choose even-sized fillets to ensure uniform cooking.
  • Do not marinate salmon for more than 30 minutes to avoid changing its texture.
  • Use a meat thermometer; salmon is perfectly cooked at 125°F for tender, medium doneness.
  • Let salmon rest a few minutes after baking to allow juices to redistribute.
  • Double the teriyaki sauce for extra dipping or drizzling over rice and vegetables.
