Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Meat

  • 8 oz Ribeye or Sirloin Steak, thinly sliced

Cheese

  • 4 oz Fresh or shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Vegetables

  • 1 Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 Medium Onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced

Bread

  • 2 Hoagie Rolls or Italian Bread

Cooking Fats

  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil or Butter

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Oregano or Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

  1. Prep the Steak and Vegetables: Slice the steak thinly against the grain for tenderness. Wash and slice the bell peppers and onions into thin strips for even cooking.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and bell peppers with a pinch of salt, cooking and stirring occasionally until softened and lightly caramelized, about 7 to 10 minutes. Add minced garlic near the end to avoid burning.
  3. Cook the Steak: Increase the heat to high, add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet (or a clean pan), season with salt and pepper, and sear quickly until browned but still juicy, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the Cheese Steak: Reduce heat to medium and combine the cooked vegetables with the steak in the skillet. Evenly distribute slices or shredded mozzarella over the mixture, cover, and let the cheese melt for about 2 minutes.
  5. Toast the Rolls and Serve: While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hoagie rolls under a broiler or in a toaster oven. Pile the cheesy steak and vegetable mixture onto the warm rolls and serve immediately, enjoying every melty bite.

Notes

  • Choose ribeye for the best flavor and tenderness due to its marbling.
  • Thinly slicing the steak ensures fast cooking and juicy results.
  • Cook steak in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding and steaming.
  • Use fresh mozzarella or finely shredded cheese for optimal melting.
  • Covering the skillet helps cheese melt evenly and combine with steak.
  • Toast the bread to prevent sogginess and keep it sturdy.
