Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Filling
Optional Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream (to desired consistency)
- Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk to about 110°F. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg to dry ingredients. Stir until dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let the Dough Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Roll and Fill: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread Nutella evenly over the dough, leaving a small margin at the edges. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 1.5 to 2-inch slices.
- Second Rise: Arrange the rolls in a greased baking pan with about 1/2 inch space between each. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed.
- Bake to Perfection: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overbaking to keep rolls soft and gooey inside.
- Optional Glaze: Mix powdered sugar with milk or cream to desired consistency. Drizzle over warm rolls after baking for added sweetness and shine.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for best yeast activation and dough consistency.
- Spread Nutella in a thin, even layer to prevent leakage during baking.
- Allow proper rising time; dough rising varies with room temperature.
- Brush rolls with melted butter after baking to keep them soft and shiny.
- If using glaze, drizzle while rolls are still warm for best results.
