Salt and Pepper Toast Waffle Fries

Salt and Pepper Toast Waffle Fries

Salt and Pepper Toast Waffle Fries are crispy, golden waffle-cut fries seasoned with a savory blend of salt, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Toasted to perfection using vegetable or olive oil, these fries deliver a bold, balanced flavor and addictive crunch, perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

Fries

  • Waffle Fries – 4 cups (freshly cut or your favorite brand)

Seasoning

  • Salt – 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Oil

  • Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil – 2 tablespoons

Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped – 1 tablespoon
  • Grated Parmesan or cheddar powder – 2 tablespoons (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Waffle Fries: If using fresh potatoes, slice them into waffle shapes using a mandoline slicer. If using store-bought frozen fries, allow them to thaw slightly to achieve a perfect crisp when toasted.
  2. Season the Fries: In a large bowl, toss the fries with vegetable or olive oil until each piece is lightly coated. Evenly sprinkle salt, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder over the fries, then mix gently to distribute the seasoning.
  3. Toast the Fries: Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or place them in a lightly greased air fryer basket. Bake at 400°F (200°C) or air fry for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden and crispy.
  4. Final Touch and Serve: Once toasted, taste the fries and add extra seasoning if desired. For a fresh finish, sprinkle chopped herbs like parsley or chives before serving. Optionally, add grated Parmesan or cheddar powder for a cheesy twist.

Notes

  • Choose thicker waffle fries to ensure they hold up well during toasting and stay crispy inside.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan or air fryer basket to allow fries to crisp evenly without steaming.
  • Use freshly ground black pepper to maximize aroma and flavor.
  • Air frying offers a healthier alternative while still delivering great crunch.
  • Serve fries immediately after cooking to enjoy maximum crispiness.
