Scale

Sushi Tacos Ingredients

  • 4 sheets sushi-grade nori
  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 oz sushi-grade fish (tuna, salmon, or crab), thinly sliced or diced
  • 1/4 cucumber, thinly sliced or cut into matchsticks
  • 1/2 avocado, thinly sliced
  • 3 radishes, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tbsp spicy mayo (mayonnaise mixed with sriracha)
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Pickled ginger slices, for serving
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice: Rinse sushi rice thoroughly until water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions. While still warm, gently fold in a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt to season. Set aside and allow to cool to room temperature.
  2. Shape the Nori Taco Shells: Cut nori sheets into rectangles. Carefully mold each sheet into a taco shell shape by folding or wrapping around a curved surface. Lightly toast them in a dry pan until they hold their shape and become crisp.
  3. Select and Prep Fillings: Slice sushi-grade fish into thin strips or small cubes. Prepare vegetables like cucumber, avocado, and radishes by cutting them into matchsticks or thin slices for layering.
  4. Assemble the Sushi Tacos: Place a spoonful of seasoned sushi rice inside each nori shell. Layer on the fish and fresh vegetables. Drizzle with spicy mayo or soy sauce. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and scatter scallions and pickled ginger slices on top.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Arrange the sushi tacos on a platter and serve immediately to enjoy the crisp nori shells and fresh flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh sushi-grade fish from a trusted source for safety and optimum flavor.
  • Keep the sushi rice sticky and properly seasoned to hold the tacos together.
  • Handle nori shells gently when shaping to prevent cracking or breaking.
  • Add sauces just before serving to avoid soggy shells.
  • Keep fish and vegetables chilled until assembly for freshness and texture.
